I started traveling at a young age and haven’t stopped. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Alaska is one of my favorite places to travel, not only because it’s home, but also because it’s big and beautiful. As a child, I would take trips with my family to Homer, Soldotna, Kenai, Fairbanks, Mt. McKinley, and other places. When I became an adult, I continued traveling to those places with family and friends. My friends and I loved to go to Seward just to get away from Anchorage. Sometimes we would go for the day, or sometimes for the weekend. Most of the time our trips were spontaneous - the best way to travel. I still travel a lot these days, but it has become a bit challenging. As I got older, I developed arthritis in my knees and now require some assistance when I travel. But, I do not let arthritis stop me from traveling and neither should you! When I was in London in 2019, I walked down 88 steps in an Underground Station to catch The Tube (subway).
I love cruising because you get to sample the world and you only have to unpack once. By sampling the world, I mean you go from port to port, sometimes in different countries, all in one trip. On my first cruise, I went to sleep in Barcelona, Spain, and woke up entering a port in Southern France. I will never forget when I pulled back the curtain, expecting to see nothing but water, and instead, I saw the beautiful mountains and old historic buildings as we pulled into the port. My favorite port is Venice. It took the ship a long time to get into the port, but the views of the different churches, museums, and other buildings were breathtaking. My 2nd favorite port is in Lisbon, Portugal. As the ship enters the port, it goes underneath the 25 De Abril Bridge. The bridge looks just like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Another thing I love about cruising is meeting people from different countries. I’m very social and I like talking to people and getting to know them. The games and food are not so bad either!
Among the countries I have traveled to so far, Italy is my favorite, followed very closely by England. I have always loved Italian culture. When I went to Italy, I finally understood the draw I have for the country. It's beautiful, old, and full of history and great sites to visit. I can’t wait to go back and travel to the country by train. I fell in love with London, which was a surprise to me. When I went to London, I felt at home. I was extremely comfortable walking around the city and seeing the different sites. The next time I go to England, I will venture outside of London to see more of the countryside.
